The Los Angeles Dodgers have just won the 2017 National League Pennant beating the Chicago Cubs 11-1.  The rout was highlighted by three home runs, one of which was a grand slam, from Enrique Hernandez.  Get full details here.

As this post proves, human beings do not know the future.  The Dodgers have now lost the last 15 out of 16 games and 10 in a row.  I remember when we asked, will the winning ever end?  Now we ask, will the losing ever end?

In the past I have been critical of the Dodgers management for not fixing the pitching staff (specifically the bullpen).

Well, it might be an understatement now but 2017 is shaping up to be a great year to be a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.  With the Dodgers who currently possess the best record in Major League Baseball, while they continue to break records within the organization for wins and team leaders, it might also be an understatement to mention the Dodgers are playing really well in 2017.

And for Dodgers fans everywhere, it gets better.  To be a fan of the Dodgers in 2017 is to watch their arch-rival SF Giants cling to dead last in the National League west division standings.  For us Dodger’s fans, it is a beautiful thing to watch as the Giants flounder day in a day out while the Dodgers win and break records.

And why are the Dodgers winning?  The Dodgers have an abundance of All-star players, Rookies and raw talent.  Take Rookie sensation Cody Bellinger and players Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Chris Taylor, Alex Wood, Clayton Kershaw, Yasiel Puig, Kenley Jansen, Rich Hill, Logan Forsythe, Yasmani Grandal, Joc Peterson, Enrique Hernandez, Austin Barnes,and Chase Utley for example.  What a year they all are having!  Okay, let’s take the entire team and watch as each game means a different hero to take center stage.   Recently, we’ve seen Justin Turner claim top spot for batting average while Corey Seager, Chris Taylor, Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger (among others) provide that much needed hit when it counts in the bottom of the ninth.

So ask me if it’s exciting to be a Dodgers fan in 2017?  That would be an understatement

No Photos Over WiFi: Who’s fault is it, Apple or Verizon?

iPhone/Verizon Complaint

One of my biggest complaints with the Apple iPhone (I have a  iPhone 5c) is its inability to send and receive a text message which also contains a photo (within Messages app) to and from an Android phone.  By the way, this problem occurs when connected to a WiFi only network.  In other words, if the master cellular 4g LTE data switch is turned off (from within the iPhone cellular data settings) but the phone is connected to a WiFi network, the user cannot send or receive a text message which includes a photograph.  So either it’s a current limitation of the iPhone or my service provider (in this case Verizon) or it’s something else.  Whatever the answer might be, I have been aggravated by it since the day I bought an iPhone in 2014 (and iPad in 2017).

Surprise Data Usage

So is it possible to send a photo in Messages with Cellular data turned off while connected to WiFi? Maybe someone knows.  Right now I hope so.  But until Apple (or Verizon) implements a better solution or I know how to fix it, the only work-around I have found is to keep 4G cellular LTE data turned on all the time and risk surprise data charges and usage.  The risk for incurring these unintended charges appear to come while browsing the internet, using apps, downloading apps, and overall general usage of the phone.

Frustrating Solution

Now it is suppose to be possible to control some of this cellular data usage via ON and OFF toggle switches which Apple has conveniently provided that allow specific individual control over apps.  (Safari for example can be set to work only while connected to a WiFi network and/or in conjunction with cellular LTE data.)  I say it’s “suppose to be possible” to control apps individual data usage because I have found this isn’t always the case.  Experience has taught me not to trust all of Apple’s individual ON/OFF toggle switches.  Even if all the apps have cellular data usage toggle switches set to OFF, I have seen a change in data usage despite a daily connection to a WiFi. Why? I do not know for sure.  And in general I do not know which apps or actions might be using 4g LTE data.  However, this much I do know: I don’t like surprise data usage (or the charges)!  Therefore, until Apple fixes Messages to allow photos over wifi to an Android phone and I know for sure what makes data increase, I will manually switch off 4g LTE data (from the master toggle switch) and continue not being able to receive (or successfully send) text messages with photos.

There are seven Republicans politicians who have voted to preserve Obamacare.  These seven republicans are Senators Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.; Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Dean Heller, R-Nev.; John McCain, R-Ariz.; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; and Rob Portman, R-Ohio.  These seven Senators have voted with Democrats to keep a failing system failing.  You may have heard that President Trump has likened Washington DC. to a swamp filled with corrupt political operatives who would rather keep their job than do what is right for Americans.  This swamp includes any person especially in a leadership role who will not stand up to defend the innocent, justice and God’s law.

Attempting to Remove God

It is no secret that Democrats do not believe in the protecting and defending of God’s law and biblical values.   Instead they don’t believe in defending the innocent but made the decision to  remove God from their party platform.  Simply put, modern-day Democrats believe in extreme government control, taking away biblical standards and replacing those standards with anything that is contrary to God.  The seven Republicans who have voted with the Democrats in obstructing Donald’s Trumps plan to move the country forward are really not Republicans.  We know they are Republicans in name only and it appears they are more interested in protecting the swamp and corrupt political climate of Washington, DC.

Accountability and Prediction

Any person, Republican or Democrat who will not vote to defend good policies which actually help Americans rather than hurt and make things worse does not deserve a place in government.   Simply put, we the people must ignore the party letter besides a political leaders name or even what they say but see how they vote.  The Democrat party has grown by at least seven members and unfortunately for Americans (and the world), will only prove to hurt Americans further.

Why do some baseball teams play, some do not: My MLB Scheduling Gripe

Why do some Major League Baseball teams get specific days off, while other teams do not?

For example, the Los Angeles Dodgers played the Chicago White Sox July 19, 2017 but then must fly home to LA to play the Braves at 7pm on July 20th.  Yet, the White Sox team gets Thurs July 20, 2017 off.  They then fly or drive a short distance to Kansas City to play Friday.

Now I can completely understand a day off for teams to fly and support it.  So to my point, why don’t the Dodgers get a day off to fly nearly 2000 miles home?  I can only think of one reason for this:  Money.  The Dodgers bring in more money than other teams so it’s probably in the best interest of MLB (and management) to keep them playing more often.   If anyone knows for sure, I would be delighted to know.

My Take on Open-World Games and Police 10-13

 

Like many things, the gaming world is no stranger to oddities.  And when it comes to open-world sandbox style games this reality takes center stage.   For me, simulation gaming is not only fun but can also be educational.  Gaming for many is visual so when a game creates a breathtaking realistic looking environment to play in, both casual and die-hard gamers take note.

Stunning Graphics

For example, flight sims such as X-plane or Microsoft Flight Simulator have the ability to carry one to another place all from the comfort of the home computer.  These games are not only fun but for the most part they provide a clean, safe, toxic and profanity free entertainment.   Many driving sims such as American Truck Simulator and similar games rise to the same level of gaming entertainment.  Even games like NFS Rivals, or Forza games allow for relatively toxic free gaming environments.  Enter open-world games such as Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, Watch Dogs 2, Assassins Creed to name a few, and a person’s toxic free gaming experience vanishes.

Let me explain.  The graphics of X-plane 11 rise to a new standard in realism as do the graphics for most modern open-world games such as GTA V.  However, besides the sandbox nature of both games and the visually stunning graphics, there isn’t much to compare in terms of the quality of content.   Which brings to me my main point about gaming.

Popular Games

Where is the open-world game as visually mesmerizing as GTA V or X-plane 11 and one that features free roam driving, flying etc but without the vulgar profanity, obscene sexual content and excessive violence?  I have no doubt developers have the ability to develop such a game.  In fact GTA games would get my vote (and many others) if they had removed (or allowed for) the removal of swearing, unending blasphemy and lewd sexual content.  After all, kids do play these types of games–lots of kids.  And why do they?  I doubt it’s for the grotesque sexual content or even the swearing.  I believe millions of kids (and adults) play open-world games because they are fun to explore, free roam, and do stunts within a graphically rich environment.  It is my view that exposing anyone to lewd sex acts, treating women as nothing but sex objects, glorifying murder and raw abuse and wrapping it with unending cussing only will prove to degrade and desensitize society against such behavior.   (These points alone is why Barack Obama was and is so popular and Donald Trump or Ted Cruz is not.  It is also a principle reason why Jesus was murdered and God is hated.)

Game Ruining Material

Let me ask this.  What does driving a car have to do with citizens on the street insulting and swearing at you when you pass by?  Nothing.  What does flying a plane or helicopter have to do with featuring inappropriate sexual behavior?  Nothing.   What does getting the choice to drive various vehicles featured in-game have to do with waterboarding and torture of fellow human beings? Nothing, that is unless developers choose to write a story which includes it.  And with all open-world games that I know of, this has been essentially the case.   Yet, as developers have shown the corruptness of their hearts by writing these types of sub-par stories, a developer and game company could raise the standard in gaming and write a truly great story that all adults and teens could enjoy.

A New Choice

There is one game that is currently in development that I hope will be one of the first, if not the first to raise that standard for open-world gaming.  That game is called Police 10-13.  It aims to be a realistic police simulator set in an open-world environment.  Police 10-13 has great potential to become a one-of-kind sandbox game featuring beautiful graphics without the unnecessary baggage that has kept so many people from playing other open-world games.

A World Without Facebook: Will You Be Ready If (and when) the Lights Go Out?

If our world lost the ability to charge phones, iPads and other portable devices would you be ready?  If people no longer were able to sign-in to Facebook and connect to the internet, what would they do? In today’s modern 2017 world I hear no-one in the public eye discussing or addressing a plan for such an event.  Instead we see just the opposite.  The prominent companies Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft are leading the way to the cloud also known as internet dependency.  Yeah I made that term up but it’s true.  With the cloud, these big boy companies among others are seeking to take away the ability to keep files local (on the hard drive) such as application software and games.   While the cloud looks good now and is becoming the new norm,  I believe it will be the downfall of the internet that everyone seems to be ignoring.

A World Without Facebook

Think about this for a moment.  If we only have access to files on another computer via the internet, what happens when that internet access is removed?  Where will your cherished files and applications be? Right, stuck on another computer server in some distant land.  Will you be able to insert a disc or flash drive to continue using your app?  We used to be able to.  Will you be able to access your pictures anymore?  Will your game still be playable without an internet connection?

Now it’s true, if access to the cloud is no longer available we may well have bigger problems to consider but I digress.

However, with increasing dependency on the internet to be their, our communication as a whole without the access to it will also be limited.  And unless you have access to a generator, being without electricity will greatly hinder the ability to charge a cell phone, tablet or iPad device.

A big question to ask now is why the big companies like Apple, Google, Facebook and Microsoft don’t appear to care.   Just a thought.

The Anger and Vulgarity Free Open World Game: Will We Ever See It?

First, I am an adult who enjoys playing simulation style video games.   And like many other people who live on this planet that God has created for us to live on,  have beliefs and boundaries that we do not seek to cross.  That does not mean we don’t like to have fun.

A higher standard in open-world gaming

It’s too bad someone doesn’t make a game with the beauty, magnitude and detail seen in the map featured in GTA 5 and others.  Will we ever see a game that can be freely explored on land, by rail, in the air, in or on the water without being subject to hate-filled angry citizens who repeatedly insult, curse or swear whenever they are passed. When will there be a beautiful game world that does not feature vulgar, immoral sexual encounters, unnecessary violence and murder?   For people who believe this is acceptable and simply part of the game, it’s no wonder so many people would have no desire to go to heaven in real life.  Maybe now would be a good time to pause to take the good person test.

The responsibility of game developers

In a game I would play, there would naturally be some blood if an in-game police officer or criminal was shot (part of police and military work by the way).  Why should this be considered  excessive violence?  It wouldn’t be in my kind of game.  And in my kind of game there would be a filter option for people who might want to remove blood completely.  In my kind of game, unnecessary anger and vulgarity would not be found.

Speaking of filters, as far as I know, GTA developers have never included an offensive content filter in any of their games.  And why not?  They target 17-year-old kids. They target adults.  They target anyone who wants to explore a beautifully crafted game world and drive a car, plane or boat.   What kid doesn’t want to drive a car, train, plane or boat, do stunts or see explosions.  I know I do and I am not a kid.

Reality shows us that there is a blatant disdain for moral values (especially Biblical ones) among developers—hence games that feature fun plus unnecessary trash are created.  It’s true that as much as the developers may disagree with my worldview and participate in these types of vulgarites in real life (or simply lack a mindset that fears God), does not mean that there aren’t people (like myself) who disagree with this Godless lifestyle.  And it certainly does not mean we don’t desire to drive a car or complete missions in game like GTA 5 that can be vulgar and hate free.  We already have mods (that crash) which allow this type of adventure, so why not a complete standalone game?

The GTA 5, Donald Trump Conundrum

75 million plus people have played the unmodded version of the game Grand Theft Auto 5 and don’t see anything wrong with its contents.  Twenty-five million have purchased Grand Theft Auto 4. Judging from these numbers many people must not have a problem with language vulgarities, excessive violence and disturbing sex that is featured in these core games.  And to criticize any blatant gratuitous aspects of the game is asking for put-downs, name calling and extended cursing from the critics themselves.

Enter Donald Trump.  I venture to say many of these same people hate or strongly dislike President Trump.  Why?  I do not know because it certainly cannot be for his offensive language, decisions, tweets, or even his personality.  Perhaps what is not liked is his desire for the restoration of law and order to our land after the lawlessness of the previous president.  Or perhaps what many of these millions of Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5 fans don’t like about Donald Trump is his moral stand to stop the murder of innocent babies.  Maybe still, what is so despised is Donald Trump’s relentless defense of the police and military while he seeks to uphold traditional Biblical values that our country was founded on.  Yep.  That must be it.  Show support and belief in Biblical values and the fan base of a game that glorifies vulgar behavior, rampant immorality and excessive violence against police will cry foul against you.  And it’s understandable because it’s exactly this kind of thing that Jesus said would happen over 2000 years ago (see John 15).  In the meantime, I will be looking for a game as massive in scale as Grand Theft Auto 5 (scenery-wise) that instead glorifies the police and obeying the law.

Enforcer: Police Crime Action – A New Review

 

In light of the fact most reviews for this game have been negative (due mostly to developer abandonment) I had extremely low expectations for this game. I should note that I was able to purchase this game for $5 on a Steam sale. Now after playing the game for more than 10 hours I have decided this game needed a new honest perspective.

NOTE ABOUT PRICING:
Since the developers seem done improving this game, I don’t believe the game is worth more than $10 in its current state. The main reason is its age. This is a dated game with minimal features compared with today’s standards in games. If you can get at a low-cost, it’s probably worth it.

WILL YOU LIKE THIS GAME?
I think it mostly depends on you. Everyone is different so it depends on what types of games you enjoy playing. If you find yourself still interested after you have read this review AND can get it for a low price, I would recommend it.

THE GAME’S GOT NOSTALGIC CHARM:
If you have ever played Police Quest from the 1990’s, this game reminds me of an open world, updated version of that with some tweaks. I enjoy the old 1990’s sim style games which this game vastly improves upon. For me this game is a simpler form of Police Quest III: The Kindred without the story-line or the updated vehicle abilities. For me, Nostalgia is the biggest reason for why this game is fun to play and definitely worth my time.

GRAPHICS:
The graphics are NOT the latest and the greatest but it gets the job done, especially if you like nostalgia police sim games. The sounds of the police car siren are great and the lighting options are nice! I have found the game as a whole a relaxing break from the usual high energy, fast paced shootout style games of today. In this game, you are given the choice of patrolling at leisure which involves random police procedures and also given choices to participate or ignore missions and calls as they occur.

MINOR GAME TWEAKING IS POSSIBLE:
It is important to note this game can be tweaked (ability to change in-game costs, money, levels etc.) in the source file folder which makes this game even more fun especially if you like messing with settings.

If you have a USB Xbox controller you can use it in the game with the keyboard which greatly enhances the game experience.  I use a controller app since the in-game xbox controller settings are limited.

 

KNOWN GAME PROBLEMS AND THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
Be aware that there some noticeable bugs in the game although I haven’t experienced any complete game crashes yet.

The AI car speed is too slow (30mph) and vehicle steering mechanics are not very good especially if compared with modern driving games.
Cars will get stuck at intersections causing wrecks, your personal car can lock up if you try to use the siren/lights and sometimes people will appear to respond until a correct procedural order is followed according the game requirements. In my experience this didn’t occur often but it can become frustrating trying to get someone to get out of their car or to get them to stop their car.

MORE ITEMS OF INTEREST AND ENHANCEMENTS THAT WOULD IMPROVE THE GAME:
Sometimes an AI person will shoot at you but since aiming can be difficult you will be shot. A better aiming system could be implemented (a further aiming shooting ability) would help with this.
The actual game city is quite small and bland (no people actually inside the buildings). The city could be expanded or even have multiple cities which would make this game greater.
It is worth noting that there is quite a bit of terrain to cover now.

The police station cannot really be entered. Entering a police station and exploring it would make this game even better.
The game doesn’t have fast travel capabilities as modern games do (unless you use the taxi off duty only).
The map could be integrated instead of broken up into sections.
AI driving needs improvement.
There should be other police cars, more random AI traffic and fewer people walking around.
Ability to customize character (skin color, person, clothes,uniform) would enhance the game even more.
There should be a police backup option.
Default game Xbox controller support TOGETHER WITH the keyboard would help. (Although there are ways around this through third-party Xbox controller apps such as Antimicro or Xpadder )

There are many more possible improvements for Enforcer but as it stands as a low-budget Indie game I have enjoyed what it offers.
