MAN OF SORROWS

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

ISAIAH53:3 (NKJV)

It was an exceedingly sorrowful day, that day over 2000 years ago, when Jesus was unjustly beaten and crucified on a cross. Yet, because of His sacrifice and who He is, we can be saved from His coming judgment in hell.

He shall be called…Shepherd and Bishop of souls

SHEPHERD AND BISHOP OF SOULS

For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian[Bishop] of your souls.

John 11:25 (NASB)

Just as a shephard watches over his sheep, here Peter is speaking about Jesus the one true shepherd who is a Guardian (also called a Bishop or Overseer) of souls of Christians. He is a protector of us (like wandering sheep) who know and trust Him. Not even the devil (as powerful as he is) will be able to keep us from being guarded and protected by God.
