HIGH PRIEST

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

HEBREWS 6:19,20 (ESV)

During the times of the Law (Mosaic Law) beginning in the Old Testament, the Jewish people were required to burn and/or bring a sacrifice/burnt offering to the priests in order to make a covering for their sins. This was not meant as a permanent solution for covering the people sins. After all, the priests themselves needed their sins paid for! The killing of lambs was repeatedly necessary as sins were repeatedly being committed. Now God has provided a once, for all time sacrifice for sins, through His own sacrifice. Jesus is the final High Priest for those who have repented and put their trust in Him.

He shall be called…the Faithful and True Witness

FAITHFUL AND TRUE WITNESS

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning[Source] of the creation of God:

REVELATION 3:14 (NKJV)

Here Jesus is referred to as the Faithful and True Witness. A reliable witness will not lie. Someone who is faithful can be trusted. Often the words of Jesus are hard to hear such as His proclaimation (in John 8) as being God Himself. It was considered blasphemeous by the Jews to make such an outrageous claim. This is what Jesus claimed and it cost Him His life. No man can call himself God. But Jesus was no mere man. And if Jesus is God, the Faithful and True Witness, His words are true and we better heed them.

He shall be called…Head of the Church

HEAD OF THE CHURCH

…Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body

EPHESIANS 5:23b (NKJV)

The body spoken of here is made up of people who are all part of the true Church that spans the entire globe. Despite what a religion(s) might teach about their church being the only church or the best church or whatnot, there is only one Church and it’s not a literal physical building. Every person who belongs to Jesus Christ (the Head), are the Church.
